Most students figure that, once middle school is over, long division no longer continues to play a significant role in their life. Little do they know!

The standardized tests test a good deal of your mathematical knowledge from middle, high, and even elementary school. Don’t take your knowledge of long division, remainders, or basic arithmetic – it is a vital part of doing well on the math section of the GRE!

The difference between two numbers is 250. When the larger number is divided by the smaller one, the quotient is 4 and the remainder is 55. What is the smaller number?

If you don’t remember how to perform long division, re-learn it! It is tested enough on the test to justify investing some time… especially if it’s been a while since 8th grade.
